Russia eVisa for Chinese Citizens: Application and Border Guide

Chinese ordinary-passport holders are included in Russia’s unified eVisa programme. The application is online, normally decided within 4 calendar days and requires no invitation or hotel confirmation. Can China citizens apply for the Russia eVisa?

Yes. China is included in the Russian unified electronic visa programme for qualifying short visits.

Prepare the Chinese passport that will be used at the border, a complete image of its data page and a separate digital facial photograph. Passport validity must extend at least six months beyond the application date. Enter the name in the exact Latin form shown in the passport rather than translating Chinese characters independently.

Invitation letters and accommodation confirmations are not official application requirements for the unified eVisa. The traveller should still plan the route, address and departure carefully, particularly for rail or land travel near the China–Russia border where only named checkpoints accept the eVisa.

The site groups mainland China and Taiwan for market planning, matching the nationality presentation used in the project’s eligibility flow. The figures come from the Russian Foreign Ministry’s electronic-visa open dataset, updated on 10 August 2026. “Issued” and “entry” are separate measures and should not be read as a same-period approval conversion rate.

Guidance written specifically for China travellers

When is the unified eVisa appropriate for a Chinese traveller?

It is appropriate for an eligible individual short visit when the traveller will use the stated Chinese passport and an approved Russian border point.

China–Russia travel can involve different legal arrangements, including ordinary visas and specific group mechanisms. These are not interchangeable. This page addresses the unified individual eVisa. A traveller should not assume that eligibility under one arrangement automatically satisfies another.

The eVisa supports tourism, private visits, business and specified humanitarian or event purposes. It cannot authorize employment, permanent residence or long-term education. Decide by the actual activity, not by whichever online option appears easiest.

Each family member needs a separate application tied to an individual passport. A Chinese citizen who also holds Russian citizenship cannot obtain a Russian eVisa. A person with a valid ordinary Russian visa can normally use that visa according to its conditions instead of applying electronically.

How should a Chinese name be entered in Latin letters?

Use the surname and given-name representation printed in the passport, checked against the machine-readable zone; do not invent a new pinyin spelling.

Chinese passports already provide the travel identity in Latin characters. Copy those fields exactly, including the order and all given-name components. A WeChat profile, bank record or English nickname is not the controlling source. The application belongs to the passport, not to the name a traveller commonly uses abroad.

Review the passport number character by character. Check date formats carefully because swapping month and day can create a plausible but incorrect value. Place of birth and issuing authority should be reproduced according to the portal’s requested format.

After issuance, compare the notification with the passport before buying a replacement connection or going to the station. Where an airline or railway ticket joins name components, keep the visa record passport-correct and ask the carrier to resolve any material mismatch.

Which China–Russia border crossings accept the eVisa?

Only checkpoints named on Russia’s official unified eVisa list may be used, even if another crossing handles international passengers.

Chinese travellers have more route variety than many markets: international airports, railway services and land crossings can all be relevant. That makes exact checkpoint verification essential. The official list includes named points in the Far East and Trans-Baikal regions, but operational availability can change independently from legal inclusion.

“Zabaykalsk” may refer to more than one mode-specific checkpoint, and a ticket or bus itinerary should match the permitted type. A border town appearing on a map does not prove that every terminal accepts electronic visas. Confirm the current government list and the carrier’s operation before departure.

Entry through an approved point does not allow exit through an unapproved one. Domestic travel after admission is generally unrestricted except for protected areas, but some border regions and facilities require special permits. Separate those local permissions from the eVisa decision.

What makes a Chinese passport and photo upload usable?

The passport page must be complete and readable, while the separate portrait must clearly show the current applicant without filters or document glare.

Mobile scanning can work when resolution is high and the camera remains square to the page. Avoid fingers covering corners, reflections on the laminate, extreme compression and automatic beauty filters. The machine-readable zone should remain visible. Do not crop so tightly that document edges disappear.

The applicant photo is not the small image printed inside the passport. Use a recent frontal portrait with a plain background and natural appearance. Glasses, head coverings and facial expression should follow the current portal specification and any lawful exception.

Files sent through messaging apps may be compressed. Open the final upload at full size and confirm that digits remain distinguishable. A fast application is not a reason to accept a blurred identity record.

How should Chinese applicants plan the application calendar?

Apply within the 86-to-4-day window, allow correction time, and distinguish the visa’s 120-day validity from the maximum 30-day stay.

The official four-calendar-day processing time begins from complete submission. If the portal returns the form for amendment, timing is calculated from resubmission. A traveller connecting to a tour, train or event should therefore keep a margin beyond the legal minimum.

The visa is single entry. Leaving Russia ends the visit even if the validity period has not expired. A 120-day visa does not authorize four months inside Russia; it provides a window for one arrival, with no more than 30 days of stay and no stay beyond printed expiry.

Use local dates carefully when crossing long distances and time zones. The border record, not Beijing or Moscow hotel-night calculations, controls the lawful period. Plan the outbound border crossing before the last authorized day.

How should a Chinese applicant manage payment and status notices?

Pay only through the authorized process or the disclosed assistance checkout, retain the application ID, and monitor the official account as well as email.

The official processing fee is non-refundable regardless of the decision. Children under six do not pay the consular fee but still require their own application. Our displayed Normal and Fast prices describe assistance service packages, not two different Russian government decision standards and not a promise of approval.

Access to international card networks and email providers can vary. Confirm that the chosen payment method actually completes and do not interpret a pending bank screen as successful submission. Save receipts without exposing card credentials.

The official account is the authoritative place to check status. Download the issued grant notification and keep an offline copy. Machine translation can help the traveller read general guidance, but passport data should never be altered by automatic translation.

What should a Chinese eVisa holder carry into Russia?

Carry the matching passport, grant notification, valid medical insurance, destination address and enough route information to use authorized checkpoints.

Carrier personnel may request the notification before boarding or departure. A printed copy is sensible for land and rail journeys with inconsistent connectivity. At the Russian border, officers can examine identity, purpose and admissibility even when an eVisa has been issued.

Hotel staff normally arrange migration registration. Private hosts should understand the arrival-notification procedure, generally required within seven working days according to the official FAQ. Keep registration records when supplied.

Insurance should cover Russia for the entire intended stay unless a reciprocal exemption applies. Confirm territorial wording and emergency assistance details. The eVisa is one part of travel readiness; customs, restricted-area, carrier and transit rules remain separate.

How can a Chinese traveller separate eVisa rules from tour or group arrangements?

Identify which legal route supports the journey and keep the documents for that route together; do not combine conditions from an individual eVisa and a group programme.

An individual eVisa is linked directly to one passport and one approval. A tour booking can organize transport and accommodation, but it does not transform the eVisa into a group document. Conversely, a traveller relying on a separate group mechanism should not assume an individual eVisa checkpoint or duration rule describes that programme.

Ask the organizer to state clearly which entry basis is being used. Compare that answer with the document issued to each passenger and the exact border point. If the group changes transport mode or separates during the trip, confirm that the permission still supports the revised plan.

Independent travellers should also avoid copying screenshots from social platforms as though they were official rules. Border lists and visa conditions can change. Use the Russian Foreign Ministry portal for the current position, retain the version consulted and re-check shortly before departure, especially for rail and land services.

Entry, insurance and registration

Approved checkpoints: the eVisa is accepted only at border points on the Russian Government’s current list. Entry through one approved point does not permit departure through an unlisted point.

Medical insurance: eVisa visitors generally need insurance valid in the Russian Federation for the complete stay unless a reciprocal exemption applies.

Migration registration: hotels normally register foreign guests. For private accommodation, the host should follow the current arrival-notification procedure, generally within seven working days.

Check the official eVisa border-point list before confirming the final route.

What an approved Russia eVisa does — and does not do

An issued unified eVisa gives the named traveller permission to present the linked passport at an authorized Russian checkpoint during the printed validity period. It removes the need to obtain a visa sticker at a consulate for the eligible visit. It does not replace the passport, medical insurance, carrier checks or the Border Service’s final admission decision.

The permission is single entry. Once the traveller leaves the Russian Federation, the same eVisa cannot normally be used for a second arrival, even when its 120-day validity period has not ended. The validity period is also not the permitted length of stay. The visitor may remain for no more than 30 days after entry and never beyond the expiry printed on the visa.

The eVisa does not authorize employment, permanent residence or long-term education. A short business meeting and paid work are not the same activity. Likewise, an approved visa does not grant access to territories, facilities or border zones that require separate permission. Travellers should describe the real purpose and obtain any additional authorization that their activity needs.

Our Normal and Fast options provide different levels of independent application assistance. They do not create different Russian government visa categories, change the official four-calendar-day review standard or buy a favourable decision. The useful role of assistance is narrower: identifying passport inconsistencies, unsuitable uploads, date conflicts and route misunderstandings before they become avoidable application problems.

After issuance, read the notification rather than relying on a payment receipt or email subject line. Verify the name, passport number and dates; download an offline copy; check the exact entry and exit points; and make sure the insurance covers the intended Russian stay. Those checks connect the online approval to a journey that can actually be completed.

If the passport is lost, damaged or replaced after issuance, do not assume the electronic permission transfers to the new document. The visa record is tied to the passport information used in the application. Contact the appropriate Russian authority for current instructions and resolve the document position before boarding. The same cautious approach applies when a traveller discovers a material spelling, number or date error after approval.
